It was 1974. Jimmy Sharpe was the Virgina Tech football coach and Frank Mosley was the athletic director. VPI, as the school was more commonly known as back then, was an independent program. I went to school in Blacksburg for a year before finances dictated that I suspend my pursuit of higher education for several years.
Although I ended up graduating from another Virginia college (George Mason) I remained a fan of Tech--both the school and the football team. It is out of appreciation for Virginia Tech's past, present, and future that I am writing this book.
This will be the third book I have published. The other two have covered a football team that many Hokie fans are also interested in, the Washington Redskins. One of them is out of print, the other is very similar in structure to what Hokie Games is. It's called The Redskins From A to Z, Volume 1: The Games.
I live in Midlothian, Virginia with my wife Andrea, who will certainly be nominated for sainthood for her patience with all of the things that have gone undone around the house during the long gestation period for these books, and daughter Katie and son Patrick (Virginia Tech Class of 2007). And, oh yes, our dogs Zoe and Daisy won't stop barking at me unless I mention them, too.
